Did you know there are 35 college bowl games? For those of you who haven’t had your fill of college football which started in August, you can enjoy the bowl games starting December 21st.
Actually I like football. My fondest memories are as a 10 year-old in the early 60’s, accompanying my dad to the Los Angeles Coliseum to see the “fearsome foursome”. My appreciation for football carried me through high school when my dad would accompany me to the games.
My husband, Jim, and I have been to the Rose Bowl several times. My husband and two sons are die hard ‘Bama fans, so the last few months our Saturdays have revolved around college football.
Thirty-five college bowl games is excessive. I remember when there were only the Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange and Fiesta Bowls. Today bowl games are sponsored by everything from athletic wear to food companies. How can one miss the “Go Daddy Bowl” or the “Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl”?
Maybe in the next few years we will see college football add the Teriyaki, Soup, Cereal and Ice Cream Bowls. Lest we forget the Finger, Salad, Punch and Vegetable Bowls? I visualize Kikkoman, Campbell’s, Kellogg’s, and Dreyer’s along with Dove, Fresh Express, Crystal Light and Green Giant, all vying for sponsorships.
My worst holiday nightmare would be the “Toilet Bowl”, sponsored by Clorox.
Yes, I’ll watch the bowl games, however my viewing will be pared down to a few. I’d like to enjoy the holidays with family and friends not glued to a TV.
