October is when I start to think about holiday shopping. I wish I was one of those people who shopped all year long for deals and the perfect treasure for a wonderful friend, but that kind of shopping is not in my bones. I’m a “get in and get out” kind of shopper, always on a mission. So my mission for the holidays usually begins around Halloween.
This impending shopping event made me think that some heartfelt holiday shopping reviews and recommendations are in order in my blog. Today I will start with something near and dear to my heart: jewelry. I’m not talking diamonds and rubies. I’m talking fabulous, unique, one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets and earrings made from semi-precious stones, shells, crystals and beads crafted by the creative genius of a passionate artist who doesn’t charge half a month’s take-home pay for one item.
Lucky for me, I have just such a go-to genius for just this kind of jewelry: Ms. Gotrocks. The imaginative Ms. Gotrocks is an artist named Linda Bucci who offers her creations at special shows and art exhibits, as well as in a small shop on Balboa Island close to where I live in California. Lucky for all of us, she also sells via Etsy online and you can reach her via her web site too.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to visit Linda at her studio in her home, a beautiful cottage with a verdant garden filled with succulents, palms, orchids and amazing art work. In addition to making jewelry, she is a crafter who makes all kinds of fun little pieces. And her husband, Bob, is a talented painter who relishes bright colors and scenes of surfboards and sailboats, some featured on the walls of their charming home. I love going into Linda’s workshop and soaking up all the cool stuff everywhere. As my little wall hanging made my Linda says, “I will never be a minimalist.” So true.
If you are looking for a fun, beautiful jewelry gift for a girlfriend this holiday season, or a special piece of art for an associate, take a look at Ms. Gotrocks. I’m sure I’ll find something on my next visit too.
